From Your Mind to the Water: Let’s Design Your Dream Custom Board

At Vintage Board Co., our mission has always been to "build simple, build beautiful." We love seeing the boards you create from our plans and kits, but some of our favorite projects started not on our drafting table, but in your inbox.

We’re putting the call out to all the dreamers, paddlers, and backyard builders: If you have an idea for a custom board that doesn’t exist yet, we want to hear from you. Whether it’s a specific hull shape you’ve been sketching or a unique craft designed for a very particular niche, we want to help you bring it to life. We don’t just design these for ourselves—we love collaborating with our community to create new plans and kits that others can enjoy, too.

How the 12.5 V-Bottom Was Born

If you need proof that we listen to our customers, look no further than our 12.5ft V-Bottom High Volume Touring SUP.

This design didn’t come from a boardroom; it came from a series of conversations with paddlers who felt the market was missing something. They wanted a board with a massive payload capacity—something that could handle bigger paddlers, a week's worth of camping gear, or a fully loaded fishing setup without sacrificing stability.

By listening to those requests, we developed a high-volume v-bottom hull that tracks beautifully while acting as a rock-solid platform. It’s now one of our most popular designs, proving that when you ask for it, we build it.

No Idea is Too "Off the Wall"

Maybe you’re thinking of a hybrid paddle-skiff, a vintage-style racing 14-footer, or even something "weird" that you’re worried wouldn't work. To that, we say: Send it anyway.

The beauty of the stitch-and-glue method is its versatility. We’ve experimented with everything from sailing conversions for our SUPs to the Avoca OC1 Outrigger Canoe. We thrive on the challenge of making "off the wall" ideas functional, lightweight, and easy to build.

Sneak Peek: The Solo Fishing Skiff

Speaking of custom requests, we are currently in the workshop perfecting our next big release: a Solo Fishing Skiff.

This design is a direct result of the feedback we’ve received from the fishing community. You wanted something more substantial than a standard SUP but more portable and "buildable" than a fiberglass boat. This skiff will feature the classic wood aesthetic you love with the stability and rigging options a serious solo angler needs. Stay tuned for the plans and frame kits—they’re coming soon!
